DEMOCRATIC AGENDA
CLYBURN LOOKS FORWARD TO DEMOCRATS LEADING US HOUSE
Tuesday, November 07, 2006

Clyburn Looks Forward to Democrats Leading (Washington, DC) – House Democratic Caucus Chair James E. Clyburn released the following statement in reaction to the Democrats regaining control of the U.S. House of Representatives. “Today the American people used the power of the ballot to show their anger with the Republican rubber stamp Congress. They voted overwhelmingly for a new direction for America, and the Democrats will lead that charge.

Democrats support an agenda that will critically examine our role in Iraq, invest in energy independence, and support our veterans, working families, students and senior citizens.  We will lead a House that fosters debate of the issues and restores civility to the process. "As I traveled this country in the past few months visiting 26 districts on behalf of Democratic candidates, I felt the growing discontent with the status quo.  Americans want leadership in Washington they can trust.

“Tomorrow is a new day in the U.S. House of Representatives, and we will begin planning elections for a new leadership team. Nancy Pelosi is a dynamic and effective leader who will insure the new direction for America will mean a more responsible and responsive government and greater opportunities for all Americans.  “I am proud to be part of the Democratic team that will effect this change and restore confidence in our elected leaders.”
